Soccer Drills:

Pirates of the Goal

Drill Setup:

  • Create a playing area –– the size will depend on age/skill level of the players.
  • Portable Soccer Goal in the centre.
  • 9 players with the ball, 3 players without a ball are the "pirates."

Drill Instructions:

  • All players with a ball dribble around inside of the grid.
  • The Pirates (no ball) try to steal the ball from the dribblers.
  • When a Pirate gets possession, they attempt to score on the goal in the middle.
  • If a Pirate scores, that player stays a Pirate and the other dribbler becomes a Pirate.
  • Play continues until all original dribblers have become Pirates.
