Sensory Exploration
Children wear blindfolds and use only their sense of touch to explore a variety of objects or textured materials placed in front of them. Each child feels an item and describes what it feels like using descriptive words such as soft, rough, smooth, bumpy, squishy, or hard before guessing what the object might be. Items can include everyday objects, fabric swatches, sensory balls, sponges, pinecones, or classroom materials. After guessing, the blindfold can be removed to reveal the object and discuss similarities or surprises. This activity builds sensory awareness, descriptive language, critical thinking, and communication skills, and works well in classrooms, therapy settings, camps, or group activities.
